MacBook Unable to Recognize WD My Passport

Several considerations on my situation:
• I’ve had mine about 5 years and it’s always acted strange at times
• Since getting a new cable 3 months ago, I haven’t had any problems using mine
• A few days ago, I transferred some data, once it was done, I hit the eject icon in ‘finder’ and then I got a message about disconnecting at the wrong time, would think that would corrupt data maybe, but not make it not available.
• Plugged it in today, and it only recognizes the drive utilities but not actual data on the drive.
• Looking to see if there are drivers to install, but I don’t even know where to start.

I’ve attached a few pics of the device and some product number things, but I’m not sure how to describe the device any better than the photos attached.

What have you tried so far? What happens if you replace the USB cable once more? Does the hard drive work in another computer? Did you run a diagnostic test using your Mac’s Disk Utility?

There are typically two aspects that mount once I plug in the Passport, the Hard Drive, and some WD Smartware. I actually just clicked the Smartware thing and reinstalled it, and the Hard Drive started working again.
