MAC desktop won't connect to device My cloud 2tb


I’m a newbie to Mac’s. I’ve loaded the desktop client on my MacOS 10.14.5. I try to login to the app using login and it finds the device so I click connect. Then I get error “failed to connect to connect to device”. if I try doing it with activation code it say it invalid or expired code(and I’ve only just generated the code.)
I can browser to the device on LAN through finder and safari no problems.
I can access the device from my iPhone with no problems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Known problem but there is no fix. Return the device before it’s too late…
