Low Writing Speeds

Hello, 

I am new to this WD Community. I have a WD My Passport for MAC which has been facing severe problems since yesterday. I am using it on windows 8. It has very low writing speeds. For copying 17GB it tool almost 10 hours and still one hour left. It has failed the SMART test also. Does this mean I have to change the hard disk or is there a solution to this problem. I don’t want to invest thousands or Rupees on data retrieving again like I did on Seagate.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello there, welcome to the community.

It seems that the drive is not working correctly, if the SMART status failed I would run an extended test using  WD data lifeguard tools to test it. 

One thing that you might want to try if taking the data out and formatting the drive, and see if it works.

I had given it for data retrieval. I will format it after I get it back. Hopefully it works. But I feel it is better to get it replaced. what do u suggest ?
