Locked My Book not Recognized by My Cloud

I have a 4TB WD My Cloud that I use for my NAS. I also have a 4TB WD My Book that I use as a backup drive for my Safepoints. I would like to lock the My Book drive for security reasons. As soon as I lock the drive the My Cloud won’t recognize it. Is it possible to use a locked My Book as a backup drive on a My Cloud device? If it is how do I unlock it on the My Cloud?

Thank you.

Hello,

On the WD My Cloud  user’s manual it says:

“If a WD external drive has been locked, when it is attached to the WD My Cloud device, it maintains that security and can be unlocked or relocked using the Dashboard.”

Check page #116 for more information.

Hamlet,

Thank you for the reply.

The problem I’m having is that the locked drive doesn’t appear anywhere on the dashboard. It doesn’t even seem to initialize (boot-up) at all. As soon as I remove the security from the drive it functions just fine.

If I attach the locked drive directly to my laptop via USB the unlock option automatically appears on my screen so I know that the security feature is working.

How do i get the dashboard to recognize the drive?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
