You should never have problems with switches as they hardly have any intelligence in them. If you do have problems, it would be because your switch, cable or power suplly is brokened and not because of incompatibility.
In regards to the Cloud when you do purchase one, just set it to a static ip, set the time, use some nice cat 5e or 6 cables and you should be all set. Lastly if you decide to load the cloud with data, do SSH into it and turn off the two scan programs.
