We’ve got 2 PR4100’s and needed a 3rd. We usually buy them from the WD store, but now it sends you to a list of retailers. But can’t find anyone that sells them, is WD getting out of the NAS business? I don’t think I’ve gotten any notifications or seen any news about this?

So end of support is end of this year. If you want another one, grab it soon. Or move onto another manufacturer.
Pretty wild they’re ending support only a few years after selling these. We bought the last one in 2023. Guess its time to find an open source project. Yay communism.
I still use my EX4 (support ended in 2022) for local (only) storage. Can’t access securely from the web but no issues inside my lan.
WD has not officially discontinued the PR4100 or announced that it is leaving the NAS market. However, the My Cloud NAS line, including the PR4100, is becoming hard to find, with most retailers out of stock and the WD Store directing buyers elsewhere. Production seems to be slowing, and there have been few updates or new features in recent years, suggesting the line is being phased out. Firmware and security updates are still available, but long-term development is limited. For those needing a reliable NAS, alternatives like Synology, QNAP, or DIY solutions such as TrueNAS or UNRAID may be worth considering.
Codex changed my PR4100 into a usable box again. I used Codex to design an a/b boot in the eMMC now my PR4100 runs Alpine Linux with full ZFS support which is awesome for me since it really is a backup storage box for me at this point anyway. I didn’t want to fight with TrueNAS and external SSD drives, so this solution works great and the 3.5GB eMMC with full A/B boot and failed upgrade rollback.

These are all usable boxes. . . for the right use cases. I have a few WD NAS units. Running rarely, but fine when they do. No internet functions - - straight up data storage in 2026.
