Just here to vent I suppose. I have noticed in the last year or so that is a terrible amount of apps and functionality to the PR4100. For professional level NAS and doesn’t offer much in terms of choice.
Apart from just providing storage and to be able to use as a plex server with hardware transcoding, this almost $1000 NAS is fact becoming just a pretty cube and these forums/posts seem too be dying a slow death.
I’m totally disappointed as WD makes some fantastic drives but seem too show no interest in their own storage solutions. Other things that irritate me about this NAS:
*I cannot back my NAS up to a google drive direct from the NAS itself.
*I’m unable to view on the dashboard what category’s of media my storage is using (OS3 dash was much better)
*I cannot view realtime usage data in the dash (not that terrible line graph in the web dash)
*ZERO security apps (there is one terrible antivirus) but no firewall as such (this should be mandatory on a NETWORK CONNECTED device)
So it looks like in the coming few months ill be heading away from WD looking to the likes of Synology or QNAP, only problem is who too choose between them as both thier apps and support are fantastic.

Hi @s15kris

I empathize with everything you’ve stated here. Everything you’ve said here is correct. I’ve come to the conclusion that WD is a company that could care less about its NAS infrastructure side of the business. They have made absolutely no investment in improving or updating their NAS system. Best I can tell, Amazon is selling exactly the same product I bought back in 2018. I have upgraded the memory to a full 16GB (that hilariously displays as 16 MB) I too miss the old dashboard from OS3 which broke everything down by how into groups. With OS5 I expected it to reflect a yellow/orange and white color scheme, but still it looked like OS3, just an even worse version. I use my Netgear mesh router as a firewall along with Netgear Armor, which alerts me of attempts to access the port. I’m able to see the offending IP address. Armor blocks it immediately. Also it’s useless for streaming most 4K video as it cannot handle the bit rate, even with the upgraded memory. The processor is too old. Works just fine for my Plex server with anything 1080p. The not being able to copy entire share folders renders the true functionality of this product utterly useless, unless it is for a single user which is pretty much just for me. On the plus side I will say that the WD drives are still original and have never failed in over 6 years and the NAS has no real hardware issues, I just clean it out regularly. However it is time to upgrade and move on in the next year. All my research has led me to choose Snynology over QNap. Excellent NAS infrastructure, superior customer service and a nice user interface. I plan to keep this only as a secondary emergency backup.
