Is My Cloud Home Duo Discontinued?

I have two My Cloud Home Duo NAS on my network. One is for personal file backup, the other is for movies/TV shows that I pull to a video server for television watching. I was looking at getting a third unit, to act as a backup for the movies/TV show files in case anything happened to that drive (too much time invested in getting that setup), but finding an available unit is currently almost impossible. Western Digital’s website list them as a “sales inquiry” instead of being able to buy it directly, and other online outlets either don’t have them or are selling them at high prices from 3rd party sellers. It’s almost like they are quietly getting discontinued. It would be nice to know the status of these units and what the plans are for this product in the future.

Both of my drives are working great and I love the setup. It will be really disappointing to find out they are being discontinued and possibly no longer supported.

Hi @DMC-12
Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:

As of mid July, 2024, if you go to Western Digital’s own webstore front and try to add most of the WD NAS on the webstore, they will show as sales inquiry only.

Only QNAP NAS products are available to add to cart.

This should tell you that most of the WD NAS are likely to be discontinued.

The not too subtle hint on WD’s own webstore NAS front page with a QNAP as the center piece.

The fact that Western Digital’s website lists these units under “sales inquiry” and that they’re hard to find through typical retail channels could indeed suggest potential discontinuation. However, to get the most accurate and up-to-date information, I recommend a few steps:

  • Western Digital My Cloud Home Duo NAS seems hard to find, might be getting phased out.
  • Call Western Digital directly to get the real story on these devices.
  • Look into other NAS options from brands like Synology or QNAP if needed.
  • Your current devices should keep working fine for a while, even if they stop making this model.
  • Check online stores, forums, and official sites to track down more info about these drives.
