Is MB Live safe to reconnect to network?

My MB Live has been powered off and disconnected from a network for the last 12 months. I recently learned about the security vulnerability, so have waited to reconnect it to network now that I need to use it.

I have NOT successfully been able to connect it directly to computer via ethernet cable. I have tried everything in the WD documents online, disabled firewalls/antivirus, etc.

Question –
If I put the MBL back on my network now (so that I can access the Admin page), and quickly turn off remote access, is there any risk to my drive immediately being wiped by the hack?

If I were you:

Connect the MBL to your network disable UPNP and FTP.
Copy everything you want to keep to another device
Buy a Synology DS120j (about 99.00USD)
Remove the HDD in the MBL and put it into the new NAS
When you do this all the data will be deleted as the drive will be formatted to work with the DS120j that’s why you need to get your data first.
Then after setup of the DS120j copy your files to it.
