Is it possible to do a private share for photos to be view only

Hi! I wanted to share a photo with MyCloud but even in private share the person i shared the link is able to View and download the photo. Is there a way where i can just set the folder for VIEW ONLY so no download is permitted?

Looks like the only choices for access are “Full” “Read” and “Deny”.

I have not tried; but I suspect “Read” will allow downloading.

Have you already tried sharing with files.mycloud.com ?

My dilemma is that i want to share the folder(and it’s contents) via private link what i can’t figure out is how to restrict their access with just able to view the photos(contents only) and not to give them access to download the file. (Basically invited private share users only view photo but cannot download.)

The fact is even without a “download” link saving the image is mostly a trivial process in most web browsers. From right clicking on the image, to looking at the page HTML code to extract the image URL, to FireFox’s Page Info (Media tab), to browser plug-in’s that allow one to save media.

Odds are WD themselves would have to modify their back end server code for the MyCloud.com site to remove the download link option when that page is displayed by the end user.

Thank you! I agree that all of that is available but most people are not tech savy enough to figure out add-ons on the browser do download media. It is also forewarned on their agreement that their images are for review only and needs to be purchased. I am just taking out all possibilities on my end that i provided them with a download button to get the photos for free. I see some media companies that have locked the downloading options for photos and even streaming videos are being cut into snips in different encoded algorithms to hinder downloads. I was just hoping that WD had the same option that could be a matter of settings the folder/file. Thanks for the response - Cheers!

Generally the My Cloud single bay/single drive devices, the subject of this subforum, are not marketed or intended for use in a business environment. They are marketed towards the home user. Their features are limited, and the MyCloud.com web portal, with it’s limited features, is what it is.

To share photos and have more control over them one may want to get a better NAS device than the basic My Cloud device. For example, an NAS that offers the ability to run it’s own web server where one can customize the pages to serve up photos and not have a download button. With more feature rich NAS boxes one has much more control over how one’s photos/files/data can be served up and marketed/monitized.

Thanks for the advice will surely get one that can be a NAS for my clients that could be restricted.
