Invitation to WD Support team to respond to customer queries on the WD My Cloud Home

This is an invitation to Western Digital support team to make a response to the numerous requests from your customers for improved functionality for the WD My Cloud Home.

There are many of us who have migrated/updated to the My Cloud Home from previous WD NAS devices and are very disappointed that much of the functionality found on these is missing from the home version.

There has been very little feedback from WD on this which I personally find very disappointing.

This is your opportunity to show that you care about your customers and tell us what you are planning to do to resolve many of these issues.

Thank you in anticipation.

@pusb87 My Cloud Home is a different product and has different features of the previous My Cloud line.
Please feel free to add your comments to the My Cloud Ideas section.

Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately you have failed to address the main point of the request.

I am now well aware that the My Cloud Home is a different product from the previous lines, much to my disappointment.

There is no need for me to add any comments to the ideas section as everything has already been mentioned either there or in this forum thread.

You must be only to aware that you have many unhappy customers posting here and WD are failing to provide any positive feedback to their concerns, and hence providing a very low level of customer satisfaction.

Surely it must be your objective to exceed your customers expectations ?

Once again I politely ask that you tell us what you are planning to do to resolve many of these issues.

kind regards

I want a common shared folder that all my family members could access.

My Cloud Home Options

  • //MyCloud-XXXXX/Public can be seen by anyone on the local network via Windows SMB
  • The other option (the one I use) is to create myfamily@email.com and provide everyone with the username and password
Now everyone can have access to the same Private Space, using My Cloud.com, Mobile App and WD Discovery Desktop App

Why would you add plex, then not provide anyway to transfer files from linux into that folder?

The cheapest and simplest media servers are all linux based, why canā€™t acess to the plex folders be made available via smb?

Most of the concerns that have previously been raised, have a comment from Oct/Nov saying that they are in the pipeline but that no timeframe can be given.

Can you give any updates on timelines or when we should see some of the features(especially the public share) being implemented and released?

The first option means that everyone have to use a PC to access the files so why I buy my cloud home? I could do it with my pc without spend 200 dollars.
The second option is what i am using now. Butļ¼ļ¼ļ¼It is not a good experience to switch accounts everytime when you want to access the shared folder.

@WDStaff How about just creating a new firmware where mycloud home can be used as a ā€œnormalā€ NAS and letting the users decide what firmeware to use. At this point I have to buy a new NAS because I made the mistake of trusting WD. I paid 220 euros for an equipment that has less functionality than my raspberry pi that cost me 40 bucks connected to an external hard drive. I think WD should adopt the slogan ā€œWhy simplify if you can complicateā€. Very unsatisfied with WD. All I need is a way to connect with an external drive share folders give read and write permission to users/groups and as a bonus be able to connect from the internet via browser. How complicated could that be?

Its not necessary for new firmware - give US MY CLOD firmware and opportunity to make manual firmware update.

I cannot believe that I will have to keep everything under the public share as for some unknown design reason I cannot access my personal files if my internet goes down, even when still connected to my own LAN!!
WTF?

I bought MCH 8TB after seeing this:
https://support.wdc.com/knowledgebase/answer.aspx?ID=18909

I thought it was a hardware update. Now I know itā€™s a software update as well.
Iā€™m thinking of returning the MCHā€™s to Amazon, and getting my money back.

Are you thinking of changing the MCH software to something like MC?

Due respect but that link doesnā€™t really provide any useful information to the features of the NAS. Itā€™s just how the hardware is done and the fact that you use a different app to access it. The link should have a section on how the software and sharing features are different more clearly than that link does.

Thanks WD for really fast refundā€¦ really very fast. Now I bought QNAP TS228 ā€¦ that is real NASā€¦

Same as everybody : the app (web, desk and mobile) is cool but I canā€™t share my files with other devices (audio players), or it must be on the public folder and not accessible outside of the networkā€¦ Ridiculous !

And the absence of sleep mode is more than annoyingā€¦

Its maybe ok for you and your company size to have unhappy customers butā€¦ donā€™t forget there are pro here selling your products who need happy customers. Itā€™s a circle. Im really disappointed with my new WD Cloud Home for many (well know) reasons like other users.

Big wish? Make us a firmware update similar to classic WD mycloud.
