Incorrect timestamps on SD Card Imports

When I import SD Cards, the timestamps are often (but not always) messed up. This makes it difficult to find the desired files after the fact.

The problem affects the top two directories so I wind up with something like the following:

and so forth… There are no files with the import date on the card. In this list, the only correct folder dates are the ones starting in May of this year. I bought the drive in April.

Is this a known issue? Is there something that I can do at my end to fix the problem?

Thank you,
Keith

Hi,

I would recommend that you contact WD Support:

https://support.wdc.com/support/case.aspx?lang=en

@keithhanlan I send you a private message. Please PM or email me directly when possible.

Hi Samuel, I updated the logs you wanted. Have you looked at my ticket yet? Thank you, Keith

@keithhanlan can you confirm the following

  1. Imported content time stamps are in sync when you are connected to the My Passport Wireless Pro dashboard using a web browser

  2. Imported content time stamps are NOT in sync when you’re not connected to the My Passport Wireless Pro dashboard using a web browser.

It sound like

Samuel, this does indeed sound like the problem I am experiencing but the “solution” is no solution at all. This device is intended to be used by photographers in the field. Why is this device unable to keep its internal clock in sync? Computers around the world have been able to keep time without requiring constant Internet access. And why does it need to be an Internet-connected web-browser? If I am connected to it using the “My Cloud” app, it could, as a last resort, get time directly from my phone or tablet. Mind you, I still consider this a defect since I now need to have a phone or tablet with me as well as the MPWP.

When will there be a fix or is the hardware design defective?

Thank you,
Keith

Hello, the MPW Pro uses its internal battery to keep the clock time. However, to get the correct time based on location, it needs to be connected via the browser configs page at least once to sync up its internal clock.

The problem I experienced is not related to the location. It was off by 8 months. Interestingly, it did advance by one day each day so this suggests that it isn’t something as simple as a failed CMOS battery. See my original posting at the top of the ticket: each day I would import and the folder date would advance by one date - but 8 months off.

That is strange. So is this still happening (auto advance by one day each day) or has this been fine since this year (2017) as you mentioned the correct folder dates are the ones starting in May of this year?

@jchen i too am experiencing this problem, I believe it started after the latest upgrade 1.07.02 on or around 07/02/2017

Problem: All the dates in My Passport Wireless are set to 01/01/2014. SD Card Imports are also imported to same date 01/01/2014. All new folders created are also dated same (via app). Folders created on PC at normal USB connection are dated fine.

Last Update by device is also shown as 15/01/2014, although Correct version 1.07.02

Can we downgrade the version somehow? Can I format the drive & reinstall all the software again?

The MPW default time starts at 1/1/2014 I think. Then it requires a time sync to get the actual time. Here is a KB article for MPWP which is the same for MPW: My Passport Wireless Pro & SSD: Import Time Differences

Thank you very much @jchen . I was trying to connect WD via http:// 192.168.0.1 but it was showing unreachable. Then http://MyPassport was also not working.

What worked was that http:// i.e. http:// mywd as my WD’s name is mywd.

Thanks again, solved.

spaces in above URLs are intentional, as I am not allowed to put 2+ URLs in post

Any idea that for how much duration this internal clock stays in sync after once connecting to web enabled browser? Till next battery drainage? till 1 month?

Hi @davchana, default IP should be http://192.168.60.1

I am experiencing the same problem recently when I imported my diving media onto the drive! Despite there was no time difference between my home and the diving country where I went to, all the time stamps imported were changed for unknown reasons! I sent requests to the customer services 2 weeks ago and there is still no response to my query! Very poor customer service! It appears to me that they do not know how to fix this bug,

I have the same issue and know remember why I dont use the My Passport. Same Country Same city but the content creation date of my video footage is not imported and the footage content creation date is changed to the date of import which causes me massive issues and time to sort trough footage. No good this HD.
