I'm so confused I don't understand anything

Hello! I Bought This My Cloud 2TB. What I was expecting was Easy access to MyCloud hdd so I can Back Up my D:/ and have those files accessible through internet.
I’m so confused I don’t even know where to start.
I have Disk D - Dedicated for my photography. As I have super bad upload speed I thought MyCloud could be like Back up of my Disk D and at the same time I could access all my files through internet. Nothing of that happened.
I entered My Cloud settings and I have no clue how to upload anything or Back Up anything or anything that would automate this process.
ok. I figured out how to access my cloud storage through Win+R \WDMyCloud but then I have to manually do everything. There is this folder with my Username which I cant open. I’m using the correct password. No clue what’s happening
Ok. I enter Apps tab in http://wdmycloud/ … HTTPS Downloads and SafepointMigration ? huh… what is this…
Ok. I found this WD Sync app on WD site. I was hoping it’s gonna show up in that http://wdmycloud/ … nah… It’s windows app… Ok. What ever. I managed to Sync my D:/ to MyCloud. But I have no Clue how to access those files on MyCloud… Jesus… Why it’s so complicated. I have this WD My App on windows… Basicaly it just view some files on my WD but not those sysnced with WD sync. useless app… I can’t do anything there.

I’m Sorry it’s such a mess. but that’s what WD makes me feel right now. I have no clue, what, where, why …
Can someone explain me please. from start… what and how should I do things ?
I have Disk D. I want it to be automaticaly backed up on WD My Cloud so it’s accessible though Internet.
As you can see I’m not so familiar with cloud concept. What I understand… Is that what’s on MyCloud is in cloud. Why I can’t access my WD like normal HDD and then choose which folder I want to be in cloud etc.

Maybe there is a Video on how to use this MyCloud ? I’m not talking about those small video about setups. A one whole Video from Setup, Uploading files, Accessing files, Sharing …

You may want to take some time to read the My Cloud User Manual (http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/?id=439&type=25) which explains how to setup the My Cloud, how to use the various features including how to “map” a Share to the local PC, how to access the My Cloud remotely. You may want to visit and watch the various how too videos and documents in the My Cloud Learning Center (http://www.mycloud.com/learn/?id=mycloud). WD has their own Youtube channel where there are several videos specific to the My Cloud series in addition to videos on their other products.

I think now it all works fine. I had to Format my WD it was showing that i’m using 300GB but nothing showed up. My Guess problem what that i was using WD Sync to make folders in My Cloud. Now I made some Shares with wdmycloud/ and then just browse those folders through WD sync. So far everything works fine.

WD Sync isn’t a file browser; it’s a file synchronisation tool.

Really, you need to go and read the manual to understand how to use the device. Or watch some of the videos.

You formatted the MyCloud…? How? You can’t format the MyCloud NAS from a client PC. Or do you mean you did a quick factory restore?

Yes. I do realise WD Sync is Sync app, but I wrote WD MyCloud app just browses/views files on MyCloud device doesn’t give me chance to manipulate with them and still couldn’t find my uploaded (WD Sync synced) 300GB. But at the same momemt when you right click on WD Sync it allows to quick jump to Synced folder, but no to destination folder.
Yes I formated MyCloud. Just open http://wdmycloud/ Utilities scroll down and there is Format option on the same page with Factory Restore.
It’s 21st century. I’m just not happy with interface. Why do I have to do some extra work with network places when I could just open http wdmycloud/ and there could be Link/Button to browse files on my device. Everything could be done from that http://wdmycloud/ … WD Synce… Files Browser etc… I can see that 300GB are used but they don’t show up. I don’t have any option to click to see where are those 300 GB. (Yes I opened Win+R \WDMyCloud) But there was only UserName folder, Public, TimeMachine and some SmartWare. I couldn’t open username folder. (Asked for Username and PW… didn’t work) The rest of the folders were empty.
It all could be made a LOT more userfriendly.

What My Cloud model and what firmware version are you using? There is no official “format” option on the single bay v4.x My Cloud Dashboard. The only official options are; System Only, Quick Restore and Full Restore. When performing a Full Restore it is possible that the restore process may reformat the drive, but the information provided does not officially indicate that a format or reformat is performed, only that the data is securely deleted. That could mean that the My Cloud simply deletes the user data, then performs a secure wipe (for example writing all zeros in several passes) of the drive’s user storage space.

The Dashboard is just the web browser based administration interface, it is NOT designed to be used to browse the My Cloud contents. How much more user friendly can it be to use Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder to access the My Cloud?

To make it even easier one can “map” Shares from the My Cloud to their local computer. See the My Cloud User Manual for more information on how to “map” a Share to one’s local computer. Or see the following links:

For remote access one CAN use a web browser to access the MyCloud.com web portal and have access too their files/data. What you cannot officially do is access the My Cloud Dashboard remotely (offsite).

Because the MyCloud is a NAS; a Network Attached Storage device. It’s intended to behave as a network disk drive, integrated into the operating system’s file system. Not used with some bespoke piece of WD software to access it. It’s FAR better to use it by accessing via the operating system’s native file system, as it makes it available to all programs, transparently.

I don’t use any WD software for local access, and only use the WD app for remote access on tablet and phone.

The Dashboard is a means to control and configure the device.
