Bear with me here. My drive, like many others here, was indexing forever, drives are hot, unit is hot, hey I’m preaching to the Choir.
So I update to the latest firmware after I’ve been made aware that there is an indexing percentage indicator. I disconnect my external backup drive (USB), update, restart and voila, indexing stopped. Drives are cooling down, EX2Ultra at near 0% CPU usage. Great!
I connect my 5TB USB Drive which I connect to backup my unit. (I have 2. When I go to work I take one with me and bring the other one back and do the backup). I backup everything. Including my Time Machine backups. Now, I have 10 shares and only 3 have cloud access. Not Time Machine, not the external drive. The moment I connect the external drive, it starts indexing. Even though, indexing for that has been disabled, it still indexes.
I just formatted that external 5TB USB drive, reconnected it and, no indexing? So, I’m assuming, based on that, the drive indexes everything even though indexing has been turned off for specific shares. I think it’s hung up on the Time Machine backup on the external drive as it contains TM backups of 5 Mac computers.
Let me know if anyone tests this and sees similar results.
