Indexing on drives must be configurable

Hi guys,

it looks like that OS5 is rubbish. I understand that it may take some time for indexing approx. 1.2 TB on my Web published share. But what the hell is ongoing? When I add data to a share not web published, indexing and preview preparation starts again and again and again. The same for a brand-new attached WD USB drive I want to use for backup only. I add data and indexing again and again.
That isn’t funy guys!
There is no need to create previews and and add this date to a index db. I want to control that on my own. Is it clear to everybody decide on my own!

I would much appreciate if the WD kid coders add an exclude from indexing and preview function as soon as possible!

To be honest there are many alternatives on the market.

Best regards and Happy New Year

I have not done this in a while. . . . .my understanding is that a USB drive is mounted to the system like a share. Once mounted, you can manage the share like any other. . . .assign users and enable/disable cloud access.

Default is not enabled.
If cloud access is NOT enabled for the USB “share”; then it won’t index?

Do I have this wrong?
I have not tried it in several months (several OS/5 firmware revisions ago)

(BTW: I too have been hollering about the need to do directory level web access permissions since I first saw OS/5)

(BTW: my EX2 ultra running on OS/3 did some rudimentary indexing as well. . . .and the indexing was turned “on” by default. That is fine if the USB device is a 32gb flash drive. NOT fine if it’s a 3TB drive full of data. Basically locked up the unit before I could get in and switch it off. Made the USB ports unusable for me. The default on OS/5 is “web access off”; so I could attach USB drives to it successfully)
