I can't believe what I'm reading!

Is it true? There’s actually no way to stream my music from my EX2 to my Android phone without being connect to my LAN. Do I really need to transfer the music to cloud storage in order to listen to it? I must be mistaken. It seems so simple but I do have a habit of over simplifying things. Help me please!

All you need to do is install the MyCloud app from the Google play store on your Android phone and you can stream the music over your data plan or WiFi from the EX2. You have me a bit confused as to your phrasing since having your data on the EX2 and the “need to transfer the music to cloud storage” is the same thing unless you mean another cloud storage location? The My Cloud app will get you access to any data on the EX2, you just need an app on your phone that supports the file type you are trying to open such as a .PDF or a Word document. There are some limitations regarding DRM or music files protect by Digital Rights Management such as music purchased on iTunes.

The My Cloud app just gives errors when not on wifi. Error 900. Can’t access network. When connected to the LAN, it works fine. Well net exactly fine, more like it works intermittently.

When I’m connected to the WiFi it will play the song. If I shut off the WiFi while it’s playing, it will continue to play which leads me to believe that it’s actually downloading the file, or a portion of it, to my phone.

I have two Android phones. Both have the same behavior. I’m stumped!

Ok, I didn’t have the complete picture since you hadn’t mentioned that you had already had the app setup but having trouble connecting on the data network and on more than one device. This might be an issue with your DNS server. If you have some familiarity with networking, I would suggest setting a static IP on the My Cloud and use Google public DNS servers.

Since this is happening on two different devices, the static IP and Google DNS might resolve the connection issues from the outside world. Also, as to your question about the download, the file will buffer on the phone or other mobile device to prevent stuttering. If you go into settings, you can set the cache size limit based on available memory on the mobile device.

Good stuff. I will experiment. Thanks!

Worked like a charm. Thanks so much for your help!

I have a DL2100, and never have had to do this, Streaming media from the NAS works fine with My Cloud app at home and remotely and other similar apps work fine, too.

My ISP is Comcast, and I do not need a static IP set for anything. I also have an ASUS router which sets up permanent IP addresses that remain the same at all times, so in a way, my router may be setting up “static” IPs.

Can you explain why the OP needs to do these steps and I do not?

There have been cases where an ISP’s DNS servers have trouble auto negotiating through the MyCloud. I have Cox cable myself and don’t have the issue either. In cases where there is an issue through an ISP, changing to a static IP and using a Google DNS server resolves the issue without having to start digging into the settings of a specific router or router/modem hybrid.

Thanks for the informative reply. I imagine “name brand” ISPs have the least issues or do not need a static IP.
