I bought a used mycloud on ebay how do i get rid of the original owners admin account and switch registration?

40 second reset will reset the admin user to ‘admin’, and blank password, thus giving you access to the Dashboard.

Then do a Quick Factory restore to clear all data and other settings. Or a Full Factory Restore to overwrite all data (takes a long time).

I assume you have downloaded and read the User Manual? If not, it’s a good place to start.

With the unit unplugged, hold the reset button (on the back) and plug in power. Continue to hold for 15 seconds. That should reset the entire unit back to factory state.

Thanks. Will I be able to re-register the device with WD? Won’t the
serial # of the device still be attached to the original owner? If not
wouldn’t anyone with access to the device can just reset or erase it?

Yes. The MyCloud is not physically secure.

I bought an ex-customer MyCloud. It still had user data on it. I did a quick factory restore, then did a Dashboard setup. I had no trouble.

Try it. If you have trouble, contact WD.
