I just purchased a WD MyCloud Home, thinking it was another NAS device. I couldn’t have been more wrong!
I was trying to figure out how best to utilise this extremely poorly implemented device, when I noticed that there seems to be no way to delete/remove a user from the device.
Am I correct or have I missed something?
A reset of the device just to remove a user who no longer should have access to the device would just be plain unacceptable.
This is a common question with answer which can be found by searching ‘remove user’ in the My Cloud Home category, but please be aware that act of user removal is irreversible.
Removing a user from a My Cloud Home device will remove all access to the data contained in the user space.
Re-adding the same user to the My Cloud Home will create a new empty user space instead of assigning the previous user space to the same My Cloud Home user.
Access to the data CANNOT be accomplished using SSH or by the Device Owner.
Ensure all data contained in the user space is copied to another location before removing the user from a My Cloud Home
However, I have already returned the item after doing a reset, as it was way too slow and didn’t meet my requirements as a “NAS” (which clearly it ain’t!).
How can a previous user have access to that information?
If it was saved and the owner just remove the person, all the data was erased from the drive? The amount of data stored says otherwise.

This is the first time Cruben has posted — let’s welcome them to our community!
It has been 4 years since this question was first asked and answered.
A new thread or a support ticket to WD Tech support is perhaps a better way to get an answer.

The KBA linked above was created in 2018 but updated in 2024. One of updated bullet point stated:
Content added or uploaded to a shared folder by the removed user is not deleted.
Existing users will still have access to content in the shared folder.
m the owner and I sent another request to the user but if that doesnt work what does?
Backup the MCH and factory reset (60 second pin reset) would wipe the user content and start over.
Thank you for your response and support, but I think I didn’t explain myself well. My question is: As the Owner, when I remove a User, is all the information they had saved deleted? (If so, and it seems from other answers that this is the case, shouldn’t there be a major warning when you are about to do this?)
2- The second question is, if that is not the case and the information is still in the cloud, how can the former user or the Owner access that information? I’ve realized that when you re-invite the same user, even with the same username and password, a new blank space is created, and not access to the previous space. How can this be resolved?
You should contact support for feature requests or post in the My Cloud Home Ideas subforum for feature ideas.
You should contact support if the very precise answer given about the permanent deletion of user data upon deletion of their account given in the KBA is not satisfactory.
