I have a My passport Pro 4Tb longtime not used. Found out that it had 199 unusable sectors, it did not work properly any more.
managed to swapp the HDD (same type, some size, but unused and functional (says Cristaldisk and AOMEI…)
Gave it a GPT-Boot and a 3.6 TB volume. Did a firmware update (?)/ overwrite (1.04.17). Managed once to see the system via WLAN, but did not mangage to see the HDD on my explorer.
If linked to my machine via Kabel (USB1/2 & USB 3) and started it ends up with all leds als lightshow.
Any advice?
To fix the issue with your My Passport Pro 4TB, check the drive’s health using CrystalDiskInfo. If the LED lightshow continues, try resetting the drive or reinstalling the firmware. Reformat the drive to ensure it’s set up correctly. Test the drive with different cables and ports, and make sure it’s getting enough power, possibly with a powered USB hub. If nothing works, it could be a hardware problem, and you may need to contact support.
Well, I did all that:
– new/near new HDD same Type/same measures/same TB
– reinstalling firmware ( did not work)
– resetting the system ( did not work)
– system battery says it is nearly full (3of 4 leds).
It sounds as if the system has a problem as it seems to run into a stop and starts over again and again, Led for HD-Activity did not start blinking when starting resetting/upgrading.
But: it does seem, that that is not a HD-problem (works via USB3 and Sata-cable properly…)
?? How to measure the quality of the battery…( there seem to be quite a lot of thes on the market (used/no info of the quality)) ?
?? Is there a chance to get a refurbished systemboard for this type of Drive ?
if so, where and how?
?? Is there an way / a means resetting the systemboard, I do not know (2buttons 10seconds) ?
?? I found several firmware Versions (Gen2 1.01.11; 1.02.24; 1.03.04; 1.04.17).
??? May be I should restore it to the oldest (1.01.11) and than 1.04.17) ?
??? Going back to a older firmware does take the same technique (SD-Card) as an Update?
I do use my passport ultra drives and my family uses same. I found the wireless pro interesting, but the WiFi-installation was troublesome. What probably led to the HDD aging/dying. I would just like
to restore it to its original capacity…
