Hope this isn’t a repeat. I just discovered my SW Pro is useless. Can I install SW 2.4.20 over 2.4.16 Pro or should I uninstall .16 first? I don’t want to lose any backups! Also, do I need my activation code; if so, will my code for Pro work with the new SW version? Thanks in advance.
What do you mean by, SW Pro is useless?
I updated my SmartWare to the latest version when it came out and I did not have any problems, it still shows as pro.
My SmartWare still works just fine on both my desktop and laptop for performing backups as scheduled.
Do you have your activation code if it is required?
“Useless” in that WD removed functions I use – auto update, Dropbox backup, etc. The WD support site says Pro is no longer for sale (so I thought it might not be supported). I also have it on a desktop and laptop, and I do have a code. Did you uninstall before installing, or does the new version install over the current one? Any problems retaining or accessing older backups? Somewhere I read that uninstalling will disconnect the software from prior backups.
I installed the new over the old. The image below shows older backups of my movies list and I am not aware of losing anything. Click on, tap or activate image to enlarge it.
