How to format my 'My Book Live Home Network Drive'

I have the ‘My Book Live’ on my home network. When I upgraded the software MBL would not recognise the partitions previously created. I really don’t like the software. The Twonky seems fine and I can put files into it and acces them form my other computers. I would like to use the MBL as a backup to the computes but not with the categories as in the WD software. That was a real pain. Can you please tell me how best to format thge MBL and to set it up with backup software from the three computers and also to have a Twonky arrangement. I would like to be able to go online and see the MBL when I go to my daughters. Thanks

There is actually an option under Settings > Utilities that allows you to do the factory restore. There are 2 options, with the full taking a much longer time (around 6-7 hours per TB of storage you have).

After that, you can use any backup software. If you ask the forums, there will be a lot of different answers.

I personally use SyncBack SE which not only does Backup, but also Sync and Mirror. They have a free version with less features (but still has Backup and Sync) but I find the paid one to be worth it.

You don’t have to use Smartware. You can use Windows Backup , Time Machine  ( Mac ) or any other software that supports network drives.

To get it back to default you will need to reset.

To access from your daughters you can setup WD 2Go or use FTP
