How do recurring backups work? (Overwrite, or...?)

I have an EX2 for data, and an EX4100 for backups. So far, I’ve been using Acronis True Image for backups of my internal HDs and my EX2. Recently, though, the EX2 backups seemed to stop working. So, I’m switching to WD’s backup s/w. (This post on an Acronis forum suggests this approach.) Seems to be working fine. (I set up port forwarding, etc. And the first backup seems to be underway just fine.) But, my question is:

How do recurring backups work? (Does each successive backup replace the existing backup? If so, is there any way to keep an “initial” backup while others are being rewritten?)

I’ve Googled, but all I can find is that you can do recurring backups (which I’m doing), and how to set them up. But not how they work, or how I can manage them.

Many thanks for any help on this!

Please note: I posted this question to the EX4 forum as well. Apologies if anyone has bumps into my question twice.

Hi ssickels,

You should use WD SmartWare for backing up of My Cloud devices. It will create backup of new files or last modified files after taking first backup.
