How do I permanently unlock the My Book Drive?

I have a new 4TB My Book external drive that I’m ready to toss in the trash.  Like an ■■■■■, I set up a password lock when I first installed the drive not realizing that rendered it useless for backups.  I have to manually unlock the drive every time I use it.  There is no function in the unlock software that allows me to permanently unlock it.  Therefore Windows Backup can’t find it.

I’ve searched the web and this forum and can’t find a solution.  I’ve reformated the drive multiple times but that doesn’t delete the unlock function.  Is there a way to permanently unlock this **bleep** drive?  Thanks!

Hello,

Yes, you can disable the security through the WD backup software on the unit and it wont ask you to unlock the drive for every backup.

Is it a hidden feature that you have to unlock in the software?  All the Unlocker software lets me do is a temporary unlock.  The WD Smartware on the drive doesn’t do anything at all.  It’s not even a program that I can tell.

I’m having the same problem. If you find out, let me know also. [Deleted]

Hello,

You can disable the security on the settings of the software.

Check on page 39 and 40 of the user manual.
