How do I do an incremental backup?

Hi, just bought a My Cloud Home, and I have no problem copying files / folders etc. to it, but how on earth do I make it do an incremental copy? I don’t want to copy the whole lot every time!!!

Many thanks
Peter

Ok, after contacting chat line, and playing around further I discovered that whilst Windows does not recognise the MyCloud as a disk drive, you can access it via Network, and there I found two folders Public and TimeMachineBackup. I can now use my incremental backup software (in my case AllWay Sync) and copy the files I require from my PC to the Public folder. These can also be accessed on my Samsung phone via the Samsung files app under Network Storage. Hope that helps anybody with same issue.

If you want, you can “Map Network Drive” to the Public Share and it will appear as a drive letter (you assign when you map the drive). You can then browse to it like your local drive.

I created a BACKUP share on my EX4 and save my backups there.

The TimeMachineBackup is there primarily for Macs.

There are a lot of threads written on this topic. If the backup is small in size, the Google Drive method is a reasonable semi-automatic way of syncing a folder on the PC to the My Cloud Home, otherwise use the freeware Freefilesync as described:

Many thanks for the responses. My main problem was that I didn’t realise you could look at the whole of the MyCloud in Windows Explorer - I was just seeing the Public and TimeMachineBackup folders. The helpful online chat lady (and the Saudade response above) pointed me at How to Enable Local Network Access to Data on My Cloud Home Using the Dashboard with Cloud Services
How to Enable Local Network Access to Data on My Cloud Home Using the Dashboard with Cloud Services, which enabled me to look at the whole thing. Then using the NoPlex tip, I used my file sync software (in may case Allway Sync, which appears to be very similar to FreeFileSync) and hey presto I can do my incremental backups now. Brilliant - I was ready to send it back. Many thanks for your help.

Allway Sync has been taken over by GS and it is no longer possible to download from their server without registration. Freefilesync can be downloaded without condition (even the source code) and has much broader support (not just Windows) and a community forum than AS.

Thanks for the update. I’ve been using it for years and have all the backup jobs set up. If it stops working, i know what to use now instead. Good to know. Thanks.
