I’d like to upgrade from my old my cloud EX2 to a new PR2100. If I have a backup of the EX2 on an external USB drive, when I set up the new PR2100, can I do a restore of the backup to get all of my files onto the new PR2100? If not, what is the best way to transfer the data from my EX2 to the PR2100?
Thanks
I believe this is correct.
I am actually trying to move a few hundred GB around right now.
Normally, I do a simple drag and drop from a PC. . . . it is “reasonably quick” . . . if you have a wired LAN connection. At the moment, my PC is on WIFI. . .and the transfer speed is ridiculously slow.
So I just took the USB drive and plugged in the back of the EX2. Running a backkup job to transfer the files. This seems to be much faster – > as the EX2 is serving as the processor and the PC is not in the loop. The only goofy thing is that the backup job creates files under a folder (named after the name of the backup job). I suspect I will be just changing folder names once everything is done copying.
Will let you know how it turns out. I think it is supposed to be “fire and forget”
Thanks! Looking forward to hearing how it worked out.
Yes - - - as near as I can tell the backup function it is working fine.
Yes. . .the backup puts the files in a folder with the job name and a long selfexplanatory menu structure. . . .but it only takes a few seconds to get the stuff to the right spot once the task is complete.
Speed is “reasonable”; although I am not watching it closely. The key is the task is running without PC involvement; which allows for video gaming and other tasks that take the PC offline.
The only hitch I see is that the EX2 does not seem to like having two 2.5" (bus powered) USB drives attached. One is ok. I will investigate further. Frankl-y; I think it is purely bus power power issue. (this is typical for unpowered USB hubs) ( I suspect that 3.5" drives with their own power brick will work fine). I have not played with this functionality much before.
