Help Please! WD My Cloud Cannot connect to this device

I have been using WD My Cloud for the past few months and had no issue with connecting before. Last night I turned it off and moved WD My Cloud to a different location in my house, and when I turned it back on and tried to connect it on my Mac, it says “Cannot connect to this device”. The blue led is displayed like normal. I can access dashboard and the content scan stated Error. I have tried rebooting it and still didn’t work. I am not technical minded so any help will be appreciated.

Your MC was originally plugged into your router, so is it still this way?

When you say you moved it , where was it plugged in originally and where / how is it plugged in now?

yes my MC is still plugged into my router, I did not change my router, all I did was just unplugged and moved it from one TV stand to another, they are still in the same location. Any ideas why it has stopped connecting?

Basically I bought a new TV stand where I placed both my router and My Cloud. I unplugged the main charger and moved both the router and MC onto the new TV stand, I didn’t even pull out the ethernet cable, and since then I cannot access MC from my Macbook and my iphone.

This is what I get everytime when I tried to access MC.

Re-seat the ethernet cable on both ends; maybe something got loosened. Look in your manual for how to do a system only reset (a minimal reset that does NOT delete data)) and try that.

I pulled out the ethernet cable and it back in and still didn’t work, also tried plug in another port. Do you mean the 4 second reset? I tried that and still the same problem.

Once thing I would try is to unplug and replug the ethernet cable at both ends between the router and WD, possibly try another cable as well if that doesn’t help.

tried the 40 second reset and it’s finally working! Thank you for all your help

This product has been on the shelves for far too long to still be running into these sort of issues! I had a Toshiba Personal Cloud that I was moderately happy with, and although at times it took a little tinkering I could always get it to do its job.

After running out of space on my Toshiba net drive I decided to go with the WD unit this time, it has significantly better reviews. I’ve had it for 3 weeks now and as soon as a leave on a business trip and realized I needed to remotely connect to pull some documents from the drive, it attempts to connect for 3 to 5 minutes before telling me there’s no response, It’s very likely this could all be fixed by a simple reset if I weren’t 800 miles away from home right now! Unlike Toshiba who built in a shut down & reset option into its remote interphase software, how WD managed to make their software so stripped and basic and manage to still work improperly really says alot about their quality
