2TB My Cloud recognized by Macbook but not router!

Original Post: Hello everyone. Just looking for some help with WD My Cloud that I’ve had for almost two years. I’ve finally settled into my new house and my HD has been with me through my travels since August 2015. Too much info on there I need but not readily.

I got AT&T Uverse and am using their router for wi-fi. Once everything was setup, I put my HD into one of the ports and plugged in the modem. A white light was on for a bit and then switched to a blinking yellow light of death. The green and orange light next to the port was out, and I even changed out the network cable but didn’t work. Tried resetting it both ways, 4 and 40 second, and it returned to the same thing as before. Then I decided to plug in the network wire into my macbook and it was recognized after a few seconds. I was able to look at all my files with no issues through WD My Cloud software and IP address. As soon as I return the cable back to the modem, it starts blinking yellow again. The modem IS setup for DHCP so that eliminated that issue.

Does anyone have any clue what the heck is going on with this thing? Thanks in advance for your responses and help.

Update 1: Luckily my desktop PC has two Ethernet ports. I put the cable into the second port and just like the MacBook it recognizes instantly. It gives me the same IP address as the MacBook which is weird. I checked the IP address and it’s set to DHCP so the router should find the My Cloud but it doesn’t. Could it be the AT&T router blocking it?

If one uses the search feature they’d see that folks with AT&T Uverse have problems with the My Cloud. The solution is to put a switch or hub inbetween the AT&T router and the My Cloud.

Thanks for the information. I did a little bit more digging and found out the same answer. BUT I ran into another issue that maybe you can help me with.

So I have both a basic Linksys switch and an old Linksys wireless router and tried them both. The issue is that when I try to install the software on my desktop PC it says it cannot find the HD on the network. The blue light finally came on but I ran into the snag. Any ideas on that one?

UPDATE: Disregard, I had a silly moment. I plugged the Ethernet cable from my modem to the internet port instead of one of the switches. Thanks for your help.
