Right. I’m finally getting my WD TV Live Streaming set-up with my WD My Cloud 4TB. Using the TV Live didn’t work too well with my Seagate GoFlex Home 3TB. So, are these steps I need to follow to get my videos to play on our LG 50LN5040.
- Turn on Twonky server on My Cloud
a) Settings - DLNA Server - Media Streaming ON
- Turn on Media Serving
a) Shares - Share Profile - Media Serving - ON
- Reboot My Cloud
a) Settings - Utilities - Device Maintenance - Reboot
Now the hard part. What do I select on the TV Live Streaming (NBK01) to access my files? Media Library? Media Server? Windows Shares? The manual, to me at least, is a titch confusing.
Lastly, although the TV Live Streaming manual claims it will support beaucoup video file formats, which format is “optimal” for streaming?
Since you’re using Twonky Server part of the My Cloud, you’d select MEDIA SERVER in the WD TV.

That’s a loaded question. It’s purely based on opinion, and it all depends on what you want.
Thank you for the answer.
As far as the loaded question, I previously tried every format out there and couldn’t them to play - MKV, ISO, MP4, VOB, etc.
With 500+ videoes, I want to be able to back them up to the WD My Cloud as efficiently as possible. The Seagate puked out on everything except AVI.
Another question on Twonky. Do I need to do anything to the “Hostname” field on Twonky Setup? I couldn’t find anything directly on the forums or Twonky’s (nonexistant) support.

No, it’s not a requirement – that just controlls the name that the DLNA clients will see for the server.

Well, all of those are “Containers,” and all (except VOB) can contain multiple media types.
Pure DVD ISOs are quite well supported, but not via DLNA (no DLNA server supports ISOs in any standard way).
Most DLNA servers will support VOB files, but will not allow for DVD navigation (navigation is controlled via IFO files, not VOBs.)
Network Share-connected WDTV will support all of them, as long as the contents of the container are also supported (audio / video codec selection, etc.)
