I would like to use my old WD My Cloud single bay as a backup drive for a Synology NAS but can’t make it work with Hyper Backup and rsync. So I paid for a one-year subscription of GoodSync but can’t find clear instructions on how to set it up to create a job on the Synology to back up to the My Cloud. Has anyone here done that?
After fiddling around for some time, I was able to make it work. Maybe someone else is interested in knowing how this works.
I installed GoodSync on the Synology NAS, on the WD My Cloud - WDMC and on the Mac (for a better UI to create the jobs than the web interface).
On the WDMC I created a new shared folder to which I want to send the backed up files.
To select the source and the destination folders for the new job creation, I used “GoodSync Connect (GSTP)” from the many options listed on each side.
One may have to select the “User Forwarder” on the Settings tab in the GoodSync File Server settings for the GoodSync app on the WDMC.
