Folder Access Denied

I have a large folder that i tried to move to my EX4, it never finished. So i’m trying to delete it and I’m getting the error 'Acess Denied, You require permission from Unix User/root to perform this action. How do I get permission to delete this folder. Thanks.

Well if you accept the risks of ssh access, then you use ssh and connect to the EX4.  Then you go to the parent directory be it /shares/Public or whatever where you can see your target directory then

rm -r target

So… I own a hard drive that I dont have full R/W acess to? This gets better and better. I’ll know what to look for while shoping to replace this thing.

You give almost NO information to allow anyone to help you.

  1. What system are you accessing the EX4 with?

  2. On this system, what can you see are the properties of the EX4 share you have setup?

  3. What user are you authenticating with to the EX4?

  4. Have you setup that user to have RW access to the share?

  5. You compain about a dircetory copy not finishing.  Have you accessed the folder on the EX4 and verified the number of files and their size on the EX4?

A NAS is a relatively complex device, it has a lot more capability and complexity than an external disk.  The EX4 is certainly one of the better ones. It does work as advertised.  You are asking it to something that it well within its capability, and something we all do most days.  If it is not working for you, the chances are good that it is a setup error, or an execution error on your part.

How large is the folder?  It would not let you delete the folder if it is indexing all the files in that folder.

@skiwi Your right, i’m sorry. I had given all of the other information in other posts. I was frusterated. Since then i’ve spent over 2 hours on the phone talking to support. He was unable to get the device to function properly. Getting a replacement.
