Just recently I was trying to access my MBL and noticed the green light constantly flashing. Not sure what it was I searched the web and got a few hints that it might be a full disk issue with the os partition. I was not able to find a straight forward solution and sending my WBL to WD was not goting to happen.
My MBL original firmware version: 02.02.02-20
Here’s what I decided to do and I now have a working MBL again!!
*** This will require taking your MBL apart. So do this at your own risk ***
The idea behind this fix is to gain access to the os partition and truncate the files that have grown out of control and give some free space to the OS so it can function properly.
1 - Remove hardrive from case. (you can find a youtube video on this if you are unsure)
2 - Connect the harddrive to a pc running linux or use a System Rescue CD.
3 - fdisk -l to find the device (for me it appeared as /dev/sdb, for you it could be /dev/sda, etc…)
4 - Enter the following commands in order (I will be using /dev/sdb, you replace with your device from step 3)
mkdir /mnt/sdb1
mkdir /mnt/sdb2
mount -t ext3 /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1
mount -t ext3 /dev/sdb2 /mnt/sdb2
( NOTE: MBL is running raid 1, so we will have to apply this fix for both partitions)
( You can verify the space usage and see it’s 100% full with the following command: df -h )
echo “”>/mnt/sdb1/var/log/rest_api.log
echo “”>/mnt/sdb1/var/log/daemon.log
echo “”>/mnt/sdb1/var/log/apache2/error.log
echo “”>/mnt/sdb2/var/log/rest_api.log
echo “”>/mnt/sdb2/var/log/daemon.log
echo “”>/mnt/sdb2/var/log/apache2/error.log
( You can verify the space usage again and should see free space: df -h )
umount /mnt/sdb1
umount /mnt/sdb2

At this point you can shutdown the pc and remove the hardrive and put it back into the MBL case as it was before. Power up the MBL and connect to your network. It could take up to 10 minutes before you can successfully access the UI, so be patient. Once you have the UI, update the firmware to the latest copy.
That’s it. the whole process took about 30 minutes from start to finish.
Good Luck!
