NOT supported   … you will have to re-encode your video to 8 bits @MP/HP 4.1

High10 or 10p requires “Software” Decoding, the WDTV is a “Hardware” Decoder

  • MPEG2 MP@HL up to 1920x1080p24, 1920x1080i30 or 1280x720p60 resolution.
  • MPEG4.2 ASP@L5 up to 1280x720p30 resolution and no support for global motion compensation.
  • WMV9/VC-1 MP@HL up to 1280x720p60 or 1920x1080p24 resolution. VC-1 AP@L3 up to 1920x1080i30, 1920x1080p24 or 1280x720p60 resolution.
  • H.264 BP@L3 up to 720x480p30 or 720x576p25 resolution.
  • H.264 MP@L4.1 and HP@4.1 up to 1920x1080p24, 1920x1080i30, or 1280x720p60 resolution.

I am able to play the same file on  ‘WD TV Play’  but  cannot play on ‘WD TV Media Player’. But still some of the MP4 and MKV files will not play on both WD player.  I don’t suggest someone to buy the WD player since I have this issue. I hope there will be a fix for it, If not I have to look for other options.

Yes, i confirm. I’m having the same issue!

Which most likely only means they’re out of spec like the file listed above. Encode proper files and they’ll play.

Some of the files come already encoded by someone else. Should i re-encode everything that WD should play easily? :stuck_out_tongue:

For now with the latest firmware, and assuming the files are in spec, you should only have to remux the files in question, or resave them using a non-encoding editor (like Machete, e.g.).

You should not expect WD to care about your problems with crappy downloads from the Internet (and maybe not go on about these kinda files on public forums, just sayin).

Recently when new firmware came out I allowed auto update so it installed. After that tried to play one movie which is encoded with gspot says (X-Vid ISO Mpeg 4) while vlc player says MPEG 4 Video (Xvid).

above codec is not supported in 2.02.32 as there is no video but sound is ok .

Reverted back to 2.01.86 as I remember this one was working fine with above codec, and was right, it working video and sound ok .

Any chance new firmware going to support given codec. as I don’t want to lose that movie I mean I wanna be able to look that movie by playing it on WD TV player,

did not noticed any other problem than this one, and I liked new firmware a lot but now I am stuck on old one since cant play above codec. Yes I can compile it in other coded or so , but why when it working fine in 2.01.86 , it is just no logic to make new firmware which do not support some already supported codec.

Best,

Can u tell me how to edit the wdtvlivegen3.ver file? I’m a OSX user and i can open it in Terminal but that is as far as i can come… Is it possible u send the corrected file?

Just download the rollback software – all the required edits are already done.

Alternately, you can try my rollback guide:

There is NO auto update. Secondly, the new firmware plays Xvid just fine. Your encoding might be off spec though, so you should post Mediainfo’s text output here (Gspot is too old).

So i’ve downloaded the rollback zip file. Can someone walk me through how to put it on my WD Live port.

Sorry im a newbie, thanks!

scroll up (2 posts above yours)… and you will see my post, click on the red link under “rollback guide”

I think have the same problem.

Much Mp4 files won t “recognized” when you click on it to play on

Also problems with reading DVD menu

Please bear with me as I’m new to the forum.  My MP4s have stopped playing as well so I came here for help.  I’ve downloaded the official WD rollback firmware but cannot figure out how to install it on my unit.  I disabled my wireless feature so the unit will not try to the web for a firmware upgrade but at the same time it’s not searching my attached USB stick either.  Any help would be appreciated.

The is my step-by-step guide for firmware rollback

Hello,

I have seen a couple of you made already several experiences with the current WDTVLive Software version  Release 2.02.32 …

which seems to have several problems…as some I also have encountered that Release 2.02.32 doesn’t play all *.mp4 files
Some files are played/some NOT

As most and recommended is to roll-back to xyz… I have rolled back to: 2.01.86 and??? mp4 files are playing, BUT DTS failed

Usually in ver: 2.01.86 is DTS implemented …I do have several Movie files with different encoded sound settings…from AAC…AC3 to DTS …those movies which have incl. DTS are in version 2.01.86 only shown up with AAV sounds…

Therefore my question: does anybody made similar experiences? which is the best Rollback? is there any way to get release 2.01.86 working INCL: DTS?

thx, and have a nice time

How about you stop crossposting?
