Okay so I’m going nuts over this.
I’ve got my WD TV Live hooked up on my network. I have enabled sharing in the Network options on my computer running Windows 7. I’ve got a picture in the “Pictures” folders under “Public” which I can see and view on my TV. Also, since I first got the device connected to my network I can view all videos that were in the “My Videos” folder in windows at the time. Now, this is my problem. I drag an .mkv video file into my “Video” folder under Public, but I cannot see or view it on my TV. It just does not show up. I can use the “Play To” option with Media Player on any videos on my PC, but since media player does not support .mkv I can’t use this function to view those files.
Is there any way that I can use the “Play To” function to play .mkv on the device? I downloaded Shark007’s Win7Codecs which made it possible to play .mkv files in Media Player on my PC, but I still can’t play them on my TV with the “Play to” function, it just says “Contacting media server” forever. I have right clicked and changed Security/Share settings on both my Share folders under “Public” and also on the files themselves, I have changed the appropriate Network settings (Network sharing on, no password etc etc.) but I just can’t find a way to make these .mkv files of mine show up on my TV screen. Everything else is working. It is really annoying me, and despite me being quite new to all this, I really don’t see what I could possibly have missed.
Any help or suggestions that might lead to a solution is very much appreciated. If I can’t find a way to share my mkv’s I’ll just have to do it manually by buying an external hard drive and plugging it directly into the device, but I would really just want to make it work over the network.
Oh and also I uninstalled the Windows Live Login Assistant or w/e it’s called, still can’t fix my problem.
Yours sincerely,
Doug
