Files in the private share are accessible as UPNP w/o any password

Just going through this problem:

Have put in my personal photos & videos in the private share. However, when I scan media on my network (through some App on my phone - like VLC, Infuse etc.), the private files are accessible & can be played.

How can I prevent discovery of these files for others?

You can’t. That’s a feature of DLNA; it ignores file permissions.

You might try a non-DLNA app, such as Kodi, which can access via SMB. Then turn off the media sharing on your private media share.

Disable (set to OFF) Media Serving on the Private Share via the My Cloud Dashboard > Shares.

Down side is one won’t be able to access the media with a DLNA client. As Cpt_paranoia indicated this is a “feature” of DLNA, it ignores file permissions.

Thanks @cpt_paranoia & @Bennor. I disabled media serving on the private share. I’m accessing media through SMB now.

One more question:
In DLNA, I used to get the option of downloading the video. However in SMB, I can not (only streaming is available). Is this also the feature of DLNA? Or, should I try a different App?

Using what app or program?

Typically when using a file manager app on a mobile device (which I assume is what you are talking about) when one opens a media file the app will use either its own media viewer app or attempt to use the default mobile device media player app.

I use ES File Explorer on my Android devices to copy files from the My Cloud to the local android device.
