Files and folders disappearing

My WD Elements Player, multi media drive 2TB has been functioning perfectly until recently.

Files and folders seem to be disappearing from the drive.  Can’t search for them or locate them using either the search option or thru my laptop.

Also some of the files within a folder come up blank (no title) but when you highlight the blank space the file actually is there and runs thru the preview pane.  It seems I need to reset the directory or something to relocate these files and replace the tiles (names of the videos). 

Has anyone got a remedy for this please?

Unqualified guess:

  • Access the HD from your desktop/computer and check the filesystem, but without automatic repair.

  • Also mount the disk under linux (if you have the skills) and check the directories content.
