Fed up, cannot access MBL. want to use HDD as normal external drive

Hi,

Long story short: sick of troubleshooting this 3Tb My Book Live. i want to take the drive out of it’s casing and just use it as an external harddisk to supplement my current storage.

The data on it is a redundant backup so i do NOT need to retrieve any data from it.

I have read there might be issues making this a regular harddisk due to it being 3Tb. Is there a tutorial out there that can explain it like they’re talking to a 3 year old? Again, i’m not interested in the data (i have it backed up elsewhere), i just want to reformat the drive (preferably to FAT32), put it into an appropriate casing and get on with life. I have looked at a couple of other threads relating to accessing the drive via USB but all seem concerned about retrieving data, so i’m not sure which bits i can skip.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi, the drive inside of the My Book Live is a regular SATA drive, you can place it in a computer and the such. However I wouldn’t recommend formatting the drive in FAT 32 as it can be to unstable in such a size drive, if you need a “compatible” format, you can reformat it in exFAT.

thanks. good to know i don’t need Linux or anything like those poor sods trying to extract data!
