EX4100 adding 2 drives. changing to RAID 5

I have an ex4100 with 2 4tb drives spanned. I want to add 2 more 4tb drives and change to raid 5. Is this possible without loosing datat? Or do I have to start over?

Hi @millermj,

Please refer to the mentioned link: My Cloud: Upgrade the Drives on a Device (RAID Expansion): My Cloud: Upgrade the Drives on a Device (RAID Expansion)

Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:https://support-en.wd.com/app/ask

Going from Raid1, Raid0, or JBOD to Raid 5 will trash data.

Adding two drives as a seperate spanned volume should be able to be done without losing data.

Make a backup first - - - regardless of what you do.

Thanks for the reply. Through all my research, this is the conclusion that I came to as well. Spanned drives work just fine, until one of them goes down. I like the redundancy of files with raid 5, if a drive goes down I don’t loose data. I am in the process of backing up all my files to an external drive.
