Hi,
I recently configured a safepoint on my Live Duo NAS and immediately started getting the following error when trying to back my data up:
Event title:There was an error updating your safepoint.
Event description:2 - There was an error updating your safepoint [Safepoint Name] on the [Name of USB] share on WDMYCLOUD.
Severity:warn
Event code:1102
I spent hours troubleshooting this and finally found the cause and the fix of this particular error. I’m posting this in the hope it might help others.
I initially found the cause of the issue by running an rsync command directly on the NAS via Putty. Once I was connected to the NAS using Putty I ran the following command:
rsync -rtDviH --dry-run --progress --log-file=/var/media/ [Name of USB] /rsync.log “/DataVolume/shares” “/var/media/ [Name of USB] /”
Replace [Name of USB] with the share name assigned to the USB drive. Once executed this performs a dry run of the backup and creates a log file on the root of the USB share. For me it failed every time when it reached a certain directory. This was an iTunes folder that contains all the album artwork. This is the offending folder and the rysnc error found in the log:
shares/data/Backup/Desktop/iTunes/Album Artwork/Download/9F47D757A3EC59B8/00/03/07/
2016/07/18 19:32:39 [8468] rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 5 bytes [sender]: Broken pipe (32)2016/07/18 19:32:39 [8468] rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (195680 bytes received so far) [sender]2016/07/18 19:32:39 [8468] rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(635) [sender=3.0.3]
As soon as I removed this iTunes folder from the NAS my safepoint completed successfully. I’m guessing there’s a bug in the current firmware that doesn’t like how this folder is named/structured, or even the files within it. Either way I hope this helps others that have received a similar error and also have an iTunes folder stored on their NAS. If not then maybe the rysnc command above may lead you to the cause of your safepoint failure.
