When I am trying to copy files using Windows Explorer to a share on the My Cloud drive on the same newtwork, it will frequently copy a number of files successfully, and then stop part way through a file as though waiting for something.
Then it will throw an error "An unexpected network error occurred (59). Retry will simply keep displaying the error leaving me with only the option to abort. After this I have constant trouble copying files or deleting files and have to9 reset the drive.
This is happening on different file types, different sizes, different shares.
Frequently it will fail on the same file over and over again, and then suddenly it will allow it to be copied.
Does anyone have any idea what is happening or how I could trouble shoot this?
I have closed the anti-virus software down during this process in case it interfered, and even uninstalled it, but this has had no effect.
Many thanks. I’ve checked the articles and set, not only my cloud drive, but all the PCs, printer, tv, blu-ray., etc to static ip addresses, checked for conflicts, etc. Rebooted the entire network from the router and all attached devices upwards several times, but i’m still getting the same issues.
Every PC, from Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, connected via wireless of CAT6 cabling is having the same problems when trying to copy files to the drive; they will copy a number of files and then one at random will just hang part way and eventually report the error. Oddly enough any attempt to copy the same file will keep issuing an error, but if IO copy other files and then go back, it will often copy it. Sometimes giving up and trying the following day will allow the file to copy, but it will then hang at another random file.
Random network errors suggest a problem with the ethernet ports on PC, MyCloud or router, or with the cables.
Since you report problems with all computers, we can probably say that the common fault is between the router and the MyCloud. So you could try:
i) unplug, re-plug and jiggle the connectors in the sockets at both ends, in case they’re not connected properly, or there is dust or some other debris causing an intermittent contact (bad contact)
ii) using a different cable to connect MyCloud to router (bad cable)
iii) trying a different port on the router (bad router port)
If none of these fixes the problem, then it points to an ethernet port problem on the MyCloud (assuming it is a hardware problem).
If the cable change fixes the problem, try it between one of your computers and router, and see if you get data errors accessing the internet (tricky, because the various protocols will request packet repeats for corruption; you may have to judge it on acheived user data rate). This is only to confirm you have a duff cable. If you think you have a duff cable, cut it in half pr throw it out, so you won’t be tempted to use it again…
Oddly enough I suddenyl wondered the same thing and had just finished checking the ports on the router before coming back to the PC and seeing your post.
Four ports on the router, and the Cloud drive had been plugged into the last one that had never been used since the router was installed. Swapped the cloud to another port and it workd, and lo and behold, the device that I plugged into the fourth instead started to fail, so it was definitely a faulty port.
Gave me a good excuse to pop out and buy a new router
