Elements HD when idke

I have several 16TB WD Elements Desktop External Drives connected to TV media players. The media players don’t seem to disable USB even when those players are turned off. So most of the day & night the drives are blinking on & off every 1 second in standby tho occasionally spinning up on their own.

Is this bad for the longevity of the hard drives? Is it better to unplug the drives when not being used? And can I just literally unplug as it’s difficult to reach the switch on the back of these drives.
