Eject My Passport Drive

I tried to use Safely Remove Hardware in W10 PC to eject My Passport Ultra 1 TB drive. Under Eject My Passport, there are two items listed. One is My Passport (J:), which is grayed out and the other is Eject CD Drive (I:) WD Unlocker. When I clicked Eject CD Drive (I:) WD Unlocker, I got error message. Since I used WD Security to unlock the drive, is the CD Drive WD Unlocker related to the WD Security? How do I eject My Passport drive? Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

When the drive is grayed out, are you able to access the information on it from windows explorer.

Please note that the CD drive is a virtual partition of the drive that helps you with the security of the drive.

Thanks for the reply. Yes. I am able to access files in the WD SmartWare swstor.

In a similar Sep 23 Thread the following answer helped the OP (although I’m Win 7):

In the Backup tab I Disable the Drive, Close-out, and wait awhile to let other apps usually blamed for the Disconnect failure (that’s my typical error Vs. your popup) “remove themselves” from the process. Then I Rt Clk the WD Icon in the Sys Tray by the Clock (NOT MS Safely Remove) and Clk the Safely Remove line. Usually it works. Sometimes I don’t disable the Backup feature before trying and it works, but after a few failures I go back to Disabling it.

Look for the same Icon and try this IF you have it.

I clicked the Disable Backup in the WD SmartWare and was able to use Safely Remove Hardware in my W10 PC to eject My Passport. Thanks for follow up.

Glad it worked.
This info about skipping the MS Safely Remove in lieu of WD’s Icon should be in the Manual, unless it is & I missed it
