DX4000 CPU temperature

While making some tests on my two DX4000 units I found out one has CPU temperature significantly higher than the other. They both share identical firmware version, raid configuration (4 HD) and of course location. One has the CPU around 40°C (105°F) +/-5°C, the other easily reaches 70°C and with HD in use 80°C (175-180°F) which does not seem health at all from my standpoint. The WD monitor from the dashboard reports everything is ok on this “hot” second unit, but I do not understand while the other identical unit remains significantly cooler. One other thing I noticed is that the fan speed on the cooler unit is higer (2300 rpm against 1500rpm ) with peaks at 6000. The hottest DX4000 remains at 1.500 rpm regardless of the internal temperature. Any idea of this behavior?

thanks

Davide

I would check/compare the wd services. Perhaps the fan service stopped on the “hot” unit?
I also think there is an ini or cfg file somewhere that has the speeds/temps perhaps the are different somehow. My box is not on but look in the wd folder(s)

Hi Gramps,

I think I found the file you were suggesting to check, it is

C:\Program Files\Western Digital\WD Enclosure Map\encmap.xml

they are identical on both units. The WD enclosure service seems up and running…

regards

Davide

Boy that would have been great if that was it
I dunno

as the unit is still under warrany (at least I hope so) I will try with WD support directly

WD replaced under warranty the DX4000 unit, now the CPU temperatures are similar to the other DX4000 (around 40-60°C max).
