What is Drive Smart Status? And Why it shows bad?
It’s the drive’s self-monitoring (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology), basically keeping an eye on itself to gauge their own reliability and to detect if things are going wrong.
If it’s showing bad then it has found an issue or issues on the drive, and may well mean that the drive is beginning to fail.It may not be imminent, but it could happen at any time and/or get progressively worse (depending on what the detected fault actually is).
Depending on what drive it is, I would ensure that all data on it is backed up elsewhere (at least all data you can’t afford to live without) and then consider to replace the drive or get it RMA’d if under warranty still.
