Drive letter not remembered

Probably not the best place to ask this but in case someone had this problem before…

I need my external 2TB WD to be Z:  Windows Server assigns it G:  I got in to manage my computer and reassign it to z: When I disconnect and reconnect it is back to G:

Is the drive plugged in directly to the computer?

Yes… It’s plugged directly into the USB port.  

I have yet to see a solution to this problem.  

Even trying a 3rd party program to make it remember hasn’t helped.
