Device cannot connect to network part 2

Anyone else having no luck on a pc running Windows 7 home premium 64bit not being able to use Network Shares? Have tried everything configured both my router’s firewall and Norton to allow sharing configured my Home Group and created a shared user’s folder and uninstalled Live essentials. I give up!?

Home group is only for MS systems. It won’t work for other company’s equipment.

It won’t even work with XP or Vista, will it?  I thought Homegroups could only be shared between Win7 computers.

Yep, that’s correct.

My mistake meant to say Home Network I had initially setup a Home group which I found out will not work

One of the 3 boxes accessing my Live is a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  I have 5 folders shared, though the BD and DVD ROM drives don’t always show up, the shared folders on my USB devices do.  Do you have passwords set up?  Even though the options are there, I’m not terribly confident in the Live’s authentication ability.  I wonder if it’s actually getting to your Windows box and failing.  I had this issue on my Linux NAS and had to disable authentication on the NAS to get access to it.  Try looking in your security logs to see if there is anything useful.

This might be of use.

Just out of curiousity, under “Network” in your file explorer, you “should” be able to see your own computer, can you see it’s shares from here?

Can you ping the WD Live from your Windows box?

You could try enabling DLNA on your Windows 7 box.  In my opinion it’s not as good as a Network Share, but it’s certainly better than nothing at all.  This would show up in the “Media Server” portion of the Live, not the “Network Shares” section.
