Delete recordings on My Passport AV-TV

Good evening!

I have a Samsung TV UE55ES7090SXZG and a WD My Passport AV-TV external hard drive. With the latter I make recordings from the TV program, which also works flawlessly. Now the hard drive is full and I deleted recordings from the TV. That seemed to have worked as well - the deleted shows no longer appear in the recordings listing. However, the recordings don’t seem to have actually been deleted, as I always get an error message that the hard drive is full when I try to start new recordings. Was it perhaps just moved to an internal recycle bin? How do I get to it? I already tried to connect it to the computer, but then I get the message "You have to format the disk before you can use it (which I don’t want to do, of course, because otherwise the data might be deleted).

Does anyone have a similar problem or can help here?
