Dashboard not responding when attempting to update

I’m having a problem installing updates via the Dashboard on Safari. So far I have tried a firmware update and an update for Transmission. Each time a dialogue box appears showing a progress bar. It never progresses and stays on 0%. When I try to reload the dashboard I get a 505 error.

The unit remains on but I can no longer access it by both my mobile and computer. Depressing and holding the power button on the unit displays the ‘shutting down’ text but it remains like that indefinitely. The only remedy (so far as I can see) has been to pull the power cable out and plug it back in.

This keeps happening. Is my unit defective or is is a software issue?

I’m running OS X Mavericks on an Apple iMac.

If the UI update is not working you could do a manual update.

The update is at http://support.wd.com/product/download.asp?groupid=905&lang=en . At the bottom of the Downloads.

Additionally, if possible, try different computer on the network with a different browser to verify the issue is not with the unit.
