CPU load 100% - FAN Speed high - very noisy

Hi All,

This is my first time, entering a topic.
but searching around there are too many discussion talking about CPU usage and Fan speed but now one seems matching my case.

I have WDDL2100 since many many years.
After updating to OS5 everything seems to become more complicated.

Update happens 2 years ago and now I’m starting to be fed up with FAN noise and CPU usage

My WDNAS is constantly using 50% or a bit more of CPU usage, process called “Top”
I can’t even kill that process.
This result on high CPU temperature and FAN spinning constantly 100% speed.

How can I solve this? Is incredible loud and I hate it.

You may want to move your post, or create a new one, in the dedicated OS5 subforum for your device. Generally this subforum (OS5 My Cloud) discusses the second generation (P/N # “-10”) single bay/single drive My Cloud which does not have a fan.

General troubleshooting steps. If the CPU load is high that generally means a app or service is causing the CPU to spike. Review the services/apps running on your My Cloud and temporarily disable or stop them one at a time to see which one is causing the CPU load issue. The fan typically runs to dissipate heat. High CPU load can contribute to excessive heat causing the fan to run constantly. Solve the CPU load issue and you’ll likely solve your fan speed issue. One may have to access their My Cloud using SSH and run the “top” command to list all running processes. One may also want to check to ensure their My Cloud unit interior (and it’s hard drives) is clean and not full of, or covered in, dust or pet hair. Obstructed air vents/fan vents can cause the unit to run at higher heat loads due to inadequate air circulation/venting. Also make sure the unit is placed in a location where it receives adequate air circulation.
