Hello there,
I recently purchased a WD My Passport Ultra to use as a backup drive for my MacBook Pro running macOS Ventura. I intend to set it up with Time Machine for regular backups; but I am encountering a few issues and would appreciate any guidance or suggestions from those of you who have experience with WD drives and macOS.
When I connected the WD My Passport Ultra, I noticed it came preformatted as exFAT. I tried reformatting it to HFS+ Mac OS Extended via Disk Utility; but I am unsure if I have done everything correctly for Time Machine use. Do I need to do anything specific when formatting; such as enabling encryption; or is it fine to leave it as is?
When I try to set up Time Machine; I get an error saying Backup Disk Not Available; even though the drive is connected and shows up in Finder. Has anyone encountered this issue; and if so; how did you resolve it?
Also, I have gone through this post; https://community.wd.com/t/wd-passport-unable-to-create-time-machine-back-ups-on-mac-os-mojave-power-bi which definitely helped me out a lot.
Is there any known issue with the My Passport Ultra and macOS Ventura that might prevent it from working properly with Time Machine? I have read about some compatibility problems with other WD drives; so I just want to make sure I am not missing anything important.
Thank you in advance for your help and assistance.
