Hi, thanks for your work and I just would like to know if I can install OpenMediaVaullt on my new EX2 Ultra. This is the last version with the ARMv7 Processor rev 1 (v7l) Marvell Armada 385 1,3 GHz Dual-Core. After reading your documentation, I didn’t find if this model is support and which steps I need to realize to replace My Cloud by OMV. Can you tell me if it’s possible to do that and what documentation I must follow ?
Thank you in advance for your answers.
I’ve installed the chroot by following the instructions into the folder located at /WDMyCloud/WDMyCloud-Gen2/Chroot. Then I’ve started to install debian with the instructions into the folder located at /WDMyCloud/WDMyCloud-Gen2/Debian.
I did the first steps :
Copy uImage, uRamdisk and rootfs-jessie.tar.xz to /boot/boot (Overwrite all)
Reboot
However, I’ve not been able to connect via telnet even after install telnetd and xinetd on my EX2 Ultra.
I’ve got this message on my client :
telnet 192.168.0.13 23
Trying 192.168.0.13…
Connected to 192.168.0.13.
Escape character is ‘^]’.
telnetd: getpty: No such file or directory
.
Connection closed by foreign host.
Could someone help me with that ?
Gen2 = Armada 375. For 385 need different kernel.
Hi @Fox_exe thank you for alerting me it’s that I felt. I don’t want to bother you but do you think I can be able to build the right kernel for the Amada 385 ? That’s my weight goal to have a clean os with Debian and OMV instead of the original system. It would be great if you can give me some advice to help me to do that
I can build it right now, but w/o Led, Fan, USB, RTC, Nand support.
To fix that - need research (Find correct Gpio pinouts, where stored real MAC address, How RTC connected to CPU and other things).
Thank you so much if you can do that part for me because I’m not very familiar building linux kernel. Howerver, I have already start to execute some instruction from /WDMyCloud/WDMyCloud-Gen2/Debian until copy uImage, uRamdisk and rootfs-jessie.tar.xz to /boot/boot (Overwrite all) and Reboot. Do I need to revert that and back to the original system ?
Thanks for all your effort to provide some alternatives with new firmwares!
I just ordered a MyCloud 2nd-gen and plan to install DSM on it. Can somebody who is runnign DSM on the same device some feedback about how it is performing? What works? What doesn’t work?
All basic stuff works, im not finding anything I need right now that doesnt. it’s been running over a week without any stability issues
Well, depends on what you use it for That synology cloud services not work is known. But what is meant by “disk management” not working? The power management / spindown of the drive?
iSCSI works flawless as well?
@Fox_exe hello fox_exe, thanks for your guide, and I have problem when i reboot the WD MyCloud gen2 after install the Debian wheezy according to guide from anionix.ru, my disk partition layout like:
/dev/sda1 1g swap;
/dev/sda2 3988g ext4;
/dev/sda3 3g ext4;
and files in /dev/sda3 like:
/var
/bin
/boot/uRamdisk
/boot/uImage
…
when I reboot WD MyCloud Gen2, the LED is blue, and WD MyCloud Gen2 not to geting IP from my router, so can’t ping, it seems that the machine does not booting correctly.
Please help me how to solve this problem, I want to installing OpenMediaValut on my machine.
Thanks very much.
Is the dm-crypt module inclueded in the clean-debian distribution?
I don’t remember.
If you need this - download kernel and build all, what you need.
(@Fox_exe):
Yo, I just PMed you. And I’m headed off to work right now, so it’ll be later today.
Anybody runinng debian + omv had success to send the HDD to sleep permanently?
I tried many things already including the instructions provided by fox_exe to spindown the hdd (ramlog etc.). But no success. Would be a shame if I have to go back to stock firmware
@seb_r
its definitelly posibble to spindown the disk with clean debian. Works for me just well for more than year. OMV, however, adds lot of garbage so not sure if you can achive this. Anyway, instructions from Fox_exe are a good start but then i did lot of googling and testing arround spinning down the disk under debian.
@defcon
just wondering, i am now running clean debian on mycloud gen1 for 1+ year. Is there any good reason, besides fancy ui, to install DSM? Thanks
Nope. Debian more flexible.
If you need “Fancy UI” - Install in debian OpenMediaVault, WebMin or Ajenti.
I have a very simply question that I could not find by searching the thread. Is the access to my device from the WD mycloud.com website still possible after this OS/Firm change?
Thanks!
Hey, Have the DSM 5.2 running on my wd cloud 2t. Does anyone know how to get the usb port working? I would like to plug an external stroage to it.
I am having an issue. I upgraded my kernel to 3.2.68, with iptables_filter. I am not sure how to add ipset in the kernel. would you be able to help me out Fox. Thanks
